The
structure of the Composting Makes Sense Program
will be very similar to the Recycling
Makes Sense Program.
Furthermore, the goals of this program are the
same as those for the Recycling Makes Sense
Program – to create a monetary incentive
to increase diversion, in this case, of yard
waste and other qualifying organic materials
from disposal in landfill facilities and to
spur innovation and the sharing of ideas.
Other qualifying organic materials include all
source separated organic materials sent for
composting with the exceptions of animal waste
(manure) and biosolids. All existing and new
yard waste programs sponsored by or on behalf
of unites of local government will be eligible
for funding.
